Historic Thomas Center Couple and Family Session
The second I saw the Thompson family get out of their car I knew our photoshoot was going to be amazing. Their outfits paired with the gorgeous Mediterranean Revival-style architecture of the Historic Thomas Center resulted in classy, elevated family photos. Most of my photo sessions in Gainesville are pretty laidback, so it’s always exciting to work with a family who wants to go for a more elevated vibe. It stretches me to rethink some of the traditional prompts and poses I give my couples and allows me to get out of a creative rut.
Moriah shared some inspiration with me and that she loves vintage vibes and black and white photos. Personally, I’ve grown to become a huuuge fan of B&W photos over the years, so editing their session was a DREAM.
The Historic Thomas Center is one of my favorite places to shoot in Gainesville. If you’re looking for greenery, it has a large Oak Tree with low hanging branches and Spanish moss, surrounded by gorgeous flowering gardens. The architecture provides a gorgeous contrast to the gardens, which makes it a popular location for engagement photos and weddings.
When shooting families my approach is really laidback and all about going at the pace of the kids. Duke, their son, is the cutest 2 year old with a love of dinosaurs and Tom Petty (he’s got great music taste). A large portion of our session was focused on mom and dad, while Duke played. Every so often he’d be intrigued with what mom and dad were doing, and then we’d snag some family photos with the sweetest smiles! His T-Rex also made its debut in the family photos.
